HAIR TRANSPLANTATION: FAQ’S
Why am I suffering from baldness?

Hair in the front & top of head are genetically more susceptible to hormones, and are thus shed (Alopecic/ balding zone). Whereas hair on the sides & lower back of the scalp are genetically immune to hormone sensitivity and are Thus destined to grow for lifetime (permanent zone). A rough rule of thumb is that the incidence of baldness in males corresponds to chronological age i.e. at 30 years age about 30% are bald, and at 60 years about 60%.

How does hair transplantation work?

We transfer bald resistant hair from the back of scalp (permanent zone) to the front and/or top of the scalp (Alopecic/balding zone) to restore better looks.

Will the result of hair transplant look natural and permanent?

With the most modern techniques that we use for hair transplant, the look is almost natural. Since the transplanted hairs are genetically resistant to hormones, they will continue to grow for a life time.

How many grafts do I need?

The number of grafts required depends on the degree of hair loss, now and in the future, the thickness and texture of hair and the density of hair adjacent to the bald area. You can email the photographers or visit in person at our clinic for a detailed estimation about the calculation of number of grafts.

How much time does it take for getting hair transplantation?

Up to 2500 grafts can be done in a single day and the patient is sent back home in the evening. If the requirement is more, then the same is accomplished on 2 consecutive days.

Is the Hair transplant procedure very painful?

Patients are given nerve blocks and local anesthesia. Most patients feel no pain or discomfort thereafter. Most patients watch TV, movies or just chat during the procedure.

How much is the healing period?

The bandage on the forehead is removed on the second day. There might be some swelling on the forehead for a couple of days. The scabs on the scalp fall off in about 10 days.

When will the hair grow?

Majority of the transplanted hair will fall off in the first month. New hair growth starts at about 2-3 months and there is full growth at 9 months.

Do we have to take any extra care for the transplanted hair?

No. They can be combed, washed, dyed, cut and shaved like normal hair.

Would there be any side effects?

None at all. It is basically taking your hair from one area and shifting to another without adding any foreign body.

What are the other areas hairs can be transplanted?

Hair can be technically transplanted anywhere on the body. Apart from the scalp, the most common areas are Eyebrows, moustache – beard, side burns and eye lashes.

Do females also suffer from baldness? And if so, what the best treatment?

Hair loss in women is a socially catastrophic event rather than the acceptable life style option that is in males. First line of treatment is medical. Resistant cases benefit significantly with Hair transplant.
